Interior of the corridor to dininghall

When the college in Munka Ljungby started over a hundred years ago, students still lived there just as today. At that time staff and students grew potatoes together, partly to keep down food costs but also to promote the community at the school. I think this was a really beautiful idea and I wanted this story to be revived again. At this old college there is a 15 meter long tunnel like corridor with no windows leading to the dining place. This dark space was a perfect setting for the potatoes to come alive again!

Rakufired potatoes

This was a suggestion to transform the corridor to the dining room of the Munka Ljungby college in a very simple way. I have been playing with shape, color and light. The result is smooth, warm, simple and dynamic.

In the corridor the potatoes (King Edward, Asterix and Amandier) are hanging from the ceiling in rows at different heights. All are made out of clay. The potatoes are glazed in red, orange and yellow; all fired in raku.

Each row has a given distance between the potatoes and the ceiling which form a wave pattern. On the right side I have placed spotlights pointing at the potatoes from the side and above. This creates a shadow on the left side of the wall, forming a wave pattern.

The wall starts with the shadows which continues with mounted potatoes made of clay, which then continues in the prints of potatoes in the same colors as the other.
